ExoMare – Freshwater from Waves

Freshwater, powered by the rhythm of the ocean

Water scarcity is one of the defining challenges of our time.

At Exowave, we believe the ocean holds not only energy – but also a sustainable solution to freshwater production.

ExoMare is our modular desalination product line powered directly by ocean wave energy.

ExoMare is an off-the-shelf solution, consisting of one or multiple wave energy converters in combination with a desalination unit installed on shore.

Designed for Resilience

The high energy density and natural predictability of wave energy makes it particularly well-suited to supporting continuous water production, even when sun sets or wind resources fluctuate.

Unlike conventional desalination plants that rely on grid electricity, generators, solar thermal or e.g. PV, ExoMare systems are:

  • Built For Harsh Marine Environments
  • Based On Circular Product Design Principles
  • Stand-Alone – Powered By Ocean Waves
  • Modular And Scalable Product Design
  • Zero-Emission And Zero-Noise Product
  • No Land Use For Energy System

ExoWave – Powering the future, driven by the ocean.

ExoMare integrates Exowave’s patented wave energy technology with modular desalination units that:

  • Convert Wave Motion Into Continuous Flow Of Pressurized Seawater
  • Drive High-Efficiency Desalination With A Dedicated Reverse Osmosis Unit Installed On Shore
  • Operate Independently Or In Hybrid Microgrid Systems
  • Scale Modularly To Match Local Demand

The result is a self-sustaining freshwater solution ideally suited for coastal communities, island nations, offshore installations, and water-stressed regions.

ExoMare is available for system capacities starting from 4m3/day to industry size. The desalination unit is available as a containerized solution or for installation in existing buildings.

How it works

Freshwater

ExoMare is an embedded solution for desalination, consisting of one or multiple wave energy convertes and a desalination unit.

The wave energy converters are installed offshore at 3m waters, and connected to the onshore desalination unit with a highpressure hose.

The wave energy converter is a mechanical device driven by the wave movements and pumps pressurized seawater to the desalination unit. ExoMare applies reverse osmosis technology for desalination of the seawater for production of freshwater.

Reverse Osmosis

ExoMare applies reverse osmosis (RO) technology for desalination of seawater and production of freshwater.

Reverse osmosis (RO) desalination transforms seawater into clean, potable water through a highly efficient membrane filtration process. By applying pressure, seawater is forced through semi-permeable membranes that remove salts, minerals, and impurities, delivering fresh water that meets drinking standards. The RO system is energy-optimized and reliable, making it ideal for municipalities, industries, hotels and resorts, agriculture and coastal developments facing water scarcity.

The ExoMare product line of wave powered desalination systems offers a sustainable and cost-effective solution for securing a dependable freshwater supply.

Sustainable Impact

Freshwater security and clean energy are deeply interconnected. By combining both in a single integrated solution, ExoMare enables:

  • Reduced Carbon Footprint Of Desalination
  • Improved Water Independence For Remote Regions, Agriculture And Islands
  • Low Long-Term Operational Costs
  • Greater Climate And Water Resilience For Coastal Infrastructure
  • Circular Product Design For Repairability And Upgrade

ExoMare represents the convergence of renewable energy and water innovation – delivering freshwater from the rhythm of the ocean.
